SDPI Launches National Grid-Scale Battery Storage Roadmap
The Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), in collaboration with the Network for Clean Energy Transition (NCET), released a comprehensive study establishing a national roadmap for deploying grid-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across Pakistan. Identifying candidate sites such as Shikarpur, Faisalabad, Dadu, and Rawat, the framework aims to reduce transmission bottlenecks, limit renewable curtailment, and support the smooth integration of solar energy into the national grid.
Fauji Cement Approves 50 MWh Battery Storage & 10 MW Solar Buildout
In a major industrial move toward energy self-sufficiency, Fauji Cement Company Limited (FCCL) approved the installation of 50 MWh of battery energy storage alongside 10 MW of dedicated solar PV generation. Split across its Nizampur and Jhang Bahtar plants, each facility will host 25 MWh BESS and 5 MW solar arrays to store peak daytime solar power for evening discharge, reducing reliance on expensive grid electricity during peak hours.
DISCOs Seek Rs 1.73/Unit Tariff Hike Ahead of NEPRA Hearing
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has formally requested a Rs 1.73 per unit increase in power tariffs for August fuel cost adjustments (FCA), with NEPRA set to hear the petition on September 29. Rising fuel generation costs—driven by a heavier reliance on imported RLNG and thermal sources—continue to increase monthly utility bills, further accelerating consumer interest in rooftop solar solutions.
